Holiday rentals under the microscope
National Tax & Accountants’ Association Ltd The ATO has advised that it is sending letters to taxpayers in approximately 500 postcodes across Australia, reminding them to only claim the deductions they are entitled to, for the periods a holiday home is rented out, or is genuinely available for rent.
MyGov Accounts
You may have seen or heard about a new Australian Government online service called MyGov, where individuals can access information and documents relating to various government services, including Medicare, Centrelink, ATO, Child Support, Disability and others. When you create a MyGov account, you have the option to Link it to these and other Member Services.
Tax debts and payment plans
Making a request to the ATO for a repayment arrangement does not necessarily guarantee that one will be granted.
